For my government placement, I worked in the lively and energetic office of MPP Vijay Thanigasalam. MPP Thanigasalam is a member of the Progressive Conservative Party and since 2018, has represented the constituents of Scarborough-Rouge Park. In addition to his role as MPP, MPP Thanigasalam is also the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation. MPP Thanigasalam immigrated to Canada in 2003 with his family, and since his arrival, has very actively been involved in his home community of Scarborough. Politics has been at the forefront of MPP Thanigasalam’s life for the last decade as he always aspires to give back to the community that has given so much to him.
During my time with MPP Thanigasalam and his team - Saranja, Anetes, and Tas - I learned a great deal about meaningful community outreach, speechwriting, and many aspects of legislative work. Additionally, I have deepened my skills in problem solving, professional relationship-building, and effective methods of communication. I was exposed to portfolios I would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn about, such as transportation and health care issues that are prominent within the riding.
MPP Thanigasalam’s office is filled with remarkable staff who went above and beyond to help me learn and grow. I want to give my deepest thanks to MPP Thanigasalam as well as Saranja, Anetes, and Tas for welcoming me in with open arms and making me feel instantly part of the team. You have all been an integral part of my learning process and development and above all, excellent team members. Thank you for a wonderful opportunity!
