The OLIP interns had the pleasure of meeting with Rachel Thompson, Senior Advisor, Government Relations, and Jake Sikora, Senior Manager, Government Relations, at Ontario Power Generation (OPG). As a leading clean power generator for Ontario, OPG produces dependable, low-cost power using a diverse mix of generating sources.
In our conversation with Jake and Rachel, we discussed the goals OPG has to ensure a more sustainable and cleaner environment for our province. For instance, OPG is currently aiming to become a net-zero carbon company by 2040 by exploring new avenues for energy sources. We also discussed some of the challenges and accomplishments of the company, and how they are continuing toward a path to ensure open, fair, and accessible energy for everyone.
All in all, OLIP had a wonderful time meeting with OPG. Jake and Rachel’s kindness and candor allowed for fruitful and insightful discussions that helped all of us learn more about how energy is sourced in Ontario. Moreover, it is always lovely meeting with former OLIP interns; Jake is an alumnus from the 2014-2015 cohort, and it is always fascinating to hear the success stories of interns before us. Thank you OPG for your longstanding support and for taking the time to meet with us!
