In one of the first meetings of the new year, the OLIP Interns had the opportunity to learn about Enbridge and its important role in the energy sector from Trevor Esdaile, Manager of Government Relations.

As the largest natural gas storage and distribution company in Canada, Enbridge is a key player in the Ontario energy space, providing natural gas to 3.9 million residents and 50% of crude oil in Ontario. They are also at the forefront of the energy transition, with large investments in projects such as wind farms, solar energy, and geothermal, key to their goal of reducing emissions by 35% by 2030 and reaching net-zero by 2050.

We had a highly informative discussion in which we learned about the importance of having a diversity of energy sources and the variety of considerations that must be balanced within the sphere of energy policy. Trevor also shared insights into how regulation impacts the energy sector at different levels of government. Trevor’s background in government relations, public service and energy brought a unique perspective to the meeting and paved the way for an engaging and fruitful conversation for the interns.

Thank you Trevor for sharing your insights and Enbridge for continuing to support the OLIP program.
