Earlier this year, the OLIP Interns had the opportunity to meet with Trevor Esdaile, Manager of Government Relations at Enbridge, to discuss all things energy!
As the largest natural gas storage and distribution company in Canada, Enbridge is a key player in the Ontario energy space, providing natural gas to 3.9 million residents and businesses. They are also at the forefront of the energy transition, with large investments in projects such as wind farms, solar energy, and geothermal, key to their goal of reducing emissions by 35% by 2030 and reaching net-zero by 2050.
We had a highly informative discussion in which we learnt about the importance of having a reliable energy grid and the variety of considerations that must be balanced within the sphere of energy policy. We also discussed the role of various levels of government and international relationships, and it was fascinating to hear about Trevor’s insights from his previous experience at the provincial and federal level.
Thank you Trevor and Enbridge more broadly for the wonderful learning opportunity and for your continuing support of OLIP!
