The interns walked to Toronto City Hall to meet with Kyle Knoeck, the Interim Chief Planner and Executive Director of City Planning at the City of Toronto. During our meeting, Knoeck told us about the role of City Planning division in creating policies for responsible development. He also walked us through Toronto’s latest Official Plan and the vision it sets out for the fourth largest city in North America.
Knoeck earned his Master of Science in Planning from University of Toronto. He is a Registered Planner and member of the Canadian Institute of Planners. Before becoming interim Chief Panner, he led two major social housing revitalization initiatives in Regent Park and Lawerence Height and worked on the renewal of Toronto’s waterfront.
We greatly appreciate Mr. Knoeck for taking time out of his day to tell us about planning policy, community consultation, and how City Planning is addressing the major challenges facing Toronto. We learned a lot about the relationship between the provincial and municipal governments, from amalgamation to the present day.
