The OLIP interns had the pleasure of meeting with Jeff Gray, the Globe and Mail’s Queen’s Park reporter. Jeff is a common sight at media scrums and press conferences around the legislature. He has worked at the Globe for 26 years covering transportation, financial crime, Toronto municipal politics, and more.
During the meeting, Jeff and the interns discussed the differences between reporting at Toronto City Hall and Queen’s Park and how he gets the information he needs. We also talked about the challenges facing the journalism industry, including the ways journalists are adapting to decline of the old newspaper business model. The interns enjoyed hearing about Jeff’s many stories from his long career, not least his experience covering the IKEA monkey story.
We want to extend our thanks to Jeff for meeting with us to share his insights and help us get acquainted with the role of media at Queen’s Park. We hope to see you around!
