The OLIP interns recently had the pleasure of meeting with Colin D’Mello, a journalist for Global News Toronto and the Queen’s Park Bureau Chief.
D’Mello shared that he views his role as a journalist as being the eyes and ears for Ontarians, ensuring they are well-informed about the happenings at Queen’s Park. He spoke extensively about the importance of relationship building within this political arena, highlighting how a solid repertoire of credible sources is essential for accurate and impactful reporting.
Additionally, we gained valuable insight into his writing process and how he identifies compelling stories. D’Mello shared that one of the most thrilling aspects of being a journalist at Queen’s Park is the daily excitement and the constant chase for news! We also learned about D’Mello’s role as President of the Queen’s Park Press Gallery, how the Press Gallery operates, and he shared some valuable advice for those interested in journalism.
