For my first MPP placement, I have been privileged to be placed with MPP Andrew Dowie from Windsor – Tecumseh. This is one of the province’s southernmost ridings and shares a border with the United States. The riding is made up of both urban and rural regions and has many interesting cultural and natural features.
MPP Dowie is the Parliamentary Assistant to the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. One of the key tasks I have been assisting with during my placement is organizing and attending stakeholder roundtables for this Ministry portfolio. I have also enjoyed sitting in on stakeholder meetings from a variety of other provincial and community organizations during advocacy day events at Queen’s Park. I have been involved in preparing speaking notes for Member’s’ statements, a Private Member’s Motion, as well as social media video clips, each of these tasks has helped me gain a better understanding of the diverse work and duties MPPs perform every day.
Recently, I was very lucky to be able to visit the constituency office and riding. During this trip, I was able to learn about the work that MPP Dowie’s constituency team does for the people of Windsor - Tecumseh. I was also able to attend local events including a funding announcement, a pre-budget consultation roundtable, and a tour of local attractions with the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. I really enjoyed and learned from my visit to Windsor, and I would like to thank the whole team for hosting me!
I would like to thank MPP Dowie and his Executive Assistant Rachel for being so welcoming and kind to me in Toronto, as well as Paul, Denica and Daniella in Windsor, I’ve enjoyed being a part of your team!
