I was fortunate to complete my placement with Committees, within the Procedural Services Branch of the Legislative Assembly. Certain committees met during the adjournment period, before the House returned to session, so it was very cool to watch MPPs and debates in action during these few weeks. Throughout my placement, I had the opportunity to learn from clerks about the types of committees and their mandates, as well as hear first-hand about some of the topics currently being discussed within them.
During my placement, I created brief procedural manuals on Committees and Roles within Committees, which helped me familiarize myself with the logistical components of committees, and will hopefully serve as a resource for new Members and the public. In addition, I drafted an essay on “The use of Indigenous Languages in Ontario’s Legislative Chamber,” which will be included in the pamphlet at the start of a new Parliamentary session.
I would like to thank Vanessa for being a wonderful supervisor and for often taking the time to chat and answer my questions. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the other committee clerks and staff in the office, who made my time in the office dynamic and engaging.
