For my government placement, I had the honour of being placed with MPP Steve Clark. MPP Clark is the Member for Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes and the Government House Leader at the time of my placement.
I was excited to be placed with MPP Clark because he has extensive experience in the Legislative Assembly, having served in government and opposition during his time as an MPP. I enjoyed the opportunity to be placed in the Government House Leaders office, particularly as it is one that OLIP interns rarely experience! Each day, the Government House Leaders' office is bustling with activity, from preparing for Question period prep to coordinating House business with the other parties. I was thrilled to have a placement in such a busy office, as it meant I could support various kinds of work, including legislative affairs, committees, issues management, and more. In December, I was also happy to visit the constituency office in Brockville. My three days in the riding were jam-packed with various community events and ministerial announcements.
During my placement with MPP Clark, I witnessed his dedication and passion for serving his community firsthand. In fact - March 4th, 2025, marks MPP Clark's 15th year as an MPP, making him one of the longer-serving Members!
Despite an early end date, I am so grateful to have had an excellent government placement. It was amazing to get to work in such a unique office, and to explore and learn more about a new region of Ontario. Thank you to the GHLO team (Jessie, George, Rav, Beth, Sam, Joseph) and the constituency office staff (especially Michael and Erin) for their mentorship, kindness, and the many learning opportunities they allowed me to participate in. A big thank you to MPP Clark for being so welcoming and enthusiastic about my placement in the office – and for being a long-time supporter of the OLIP program!
