Humera Jabir
Humera Jabir is a recent graduate of McGill University where she completed a B.A. (Joint Honours) in Political Science and International Development Studies. Originally from Brampton, Ontario, Humera moved to Victoria, B.C. in 2006 after receiving a full scholarship to attend Lester B. Pearson United World College where she studied with 200 students from 89 different countries. The close friendships she made with students from around the world inspired her to work and travel internationally. Humera has worked in the Netherlands as a trainer at a youth summit on multiculturalism and minority integration. In 2008, she worked as a summer programs manager for a student ambassador program in Nagasaki, Japan. And in 2009, Humera interned as a documentary journalist in Kisumu, Kenya, reporting on the challenges facing Kenya's criminal justice system. Humera has a long-standing interest in journalism and media, working as a News Editor for the McGill Daily in 2009-2010, as well as a communications intern for the Nobel Women's Initiative, an international NGO based in Ottawa, Ontario. Outside of her academic and career interests, Humera is an avid reader of the news, and a beginner everything: photographer, guitarist, trekker, and cook. As an OLIP intern, Humera is excited to be back in her home province and looks forward to learning about the issues that matter to Ontarians.
