Evan Akriotis

Evan

Evan was born and raised in Toronto, but moved to Montreal to complete a Joint Honours degree in Canadian Studies and Political Science at McGill University. While there, Evan was President of the Canadian Studies Association of Undergraduate Students, edited the Canadian Studies undergraduate journal, and played in the Montreal Squash League. His research interests include the nature of political representation in Canada, the role of the media (particularly entertainment media) in politics, and the politics of the north. In 2010, Evan explored these interests further by spending the summer in Pangnirtung, Nunavut with the University of Manitoba's Pangnirtung Summer School. His undergraduate thesis used a content analysis of House of Commons debates to illustrate the effects of descriptive representation (or lack thereof) in a selection of Canadian constituencies. In addition to his political pursuits, Evan enjoys running, squash, playing piano and saxophone, and having his heart broken by Toronto sports teams.
